Dorchester Bay Helps to Bring Hubway to Dorchester and Roxbury

Hubway has been around since 2011, but the successful bike-share company didn’t have a strong presence in Boston’s marginalized communities. With the August 16 unveiling of twenty new locations in Dorchester, Roxbury, and East Boston – half of them in Roxbury and North Dorchester – the tide is changing.

Mayor Martin J. Walsh announced the new locations at a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Roxbury YMCA. The Mayor and representatives from the Boston Transportation Department, Roxbury Rides, Boston Bikes, and other community organizations spoke about the importance of inclusive transportation.

Dorchester Bay helped to make the North Dorchester and Roxbury locations a reality. Ricky Guerra, Assistant Director of Resident Initiatives and Community Organizing at Dorchester Bay, and Healthy Community Champions Auston Harris and Samir McDaniels led an effort to get community feedback. “Our team worked really hard over the summer to get neighborhood input about where the stations should go, and it’s very exciting to see our communities get access to this resource,” said Guerra.

Mayor Walsh and Hubway also took a moment to thank Dorchester Bay for their efforts to bring bike-sharing to the area.
