Crime Stopper of the Year – Dorchester Bay’s Elias Monteiro

When it comes to service to the community, there’s no one quite like Dorchester Bay’s Elias Monteiro. But don’t take our word for it. Just ask the Mayor’s office.

Elias has been awarded the City of Boston’s Crime Stopper of the Year award for his continuing commitment and successful efforts to combat crime in Dorchester Bay’s neighborhoods.

Nominated by Boston Police District B-2’s Community Service Officers, Elias has been hailed for his work to stem violence in the Dudley Street and Upham’s Corners neighborhoods. The nomination specifically references Elias’ partnership with District B-2 in successful efforts to reduce violence between Cape Verdean gangs in the early 2000’s.

Highlighting Elias’ contributions for the better part of a decade, the nomination notes that together with the officers of B-2 and neighborhood groups, Elias has played a vital part in the drastic decrease in overall violent crime in the past five years.

Elias is fond of saying, “It’s a team effort.” We agree, of course, that it takes many hands and hearts, working in partnership to make a change.

We also know that some contributions can have a particularly powerful impact, and we are proud to shine a light on the special impact that Elias has made.

Congratulations, Elias, on this well-deserved award! We’re proud of you!
