Calling all ideas for Pierce Building retail

The Uphams Corner retail district is a thriving cornerstone of the community with a diverse array of retail offerings. Residents within and outside of Uphams Corner come to the district to meet their various retail needs, whether that be picking up some groceries, sprucing up their wardrobes or grabbing a bite to eat.

Uphams Corner has the potential to build on the existing retail district to strengthen its local economy even more. Residents, local community organizations, and the City of Boston have identified Uphams Corner as a district that is ripe for growth that benefits the community. Dorchester Bay’s Pierce building is one of multiple buildings in Uphams Corner that will be undergoing redevelopment to bring Uphams Corner – the heart of Dorchester – to life.

The Pierce building rests on the corner of Dudley Street and Columbia Road, the central intersection of the Uphams Corner district. As a gateway into Upham’s Corner, the ground floor retail space of the Pierce building has the potential to act as a community gathering space and to set the tone for a vibrant Uphams Corner retail district that is bustling with activity.

Next Steps

Together with our partners, we will host a community meeting in May to present the data we have jointly collected about what retail types community members want to see in the neighborhood.

We will work with residents and business owners at that meeting to solidify a vision for the retail district, and to come up with a list of priority retail uses that fulfill that vision.
