BOSTON, MA— On Thursday the Boston Planning and Development Agency (BPDA) recommended tentative designation of Dorchester Bay Economic Development Corporation, Caribbean Integration Community Development Inc., and Escazú Development LLC as co-developers of 12 brand-new homeownership units at 21-29 Fernboro Street in Dorchester.
The proposed development will revitalize five city-owned vacant parcels located at the intersection of Fernboro Street and Intervale Street in the vibrant Grove Hall neighborhood. The project will consist of two and three-bedroom housing units, aligning with the community’s expressed desire for family-friendly housing, as outlined in the City’s Request for Proposals. This transformative initiative aims to enhance the neighborhood’s residential landscape and meet the needs of residents seeking quality housing options.
Dorchester Bay EDC’s mission priority of equitable development without displacement will be bolstered by the creation of these twelve new units, which will provide first-time homebuyers in the Grove Hall neighborhood with the chance to build equity, giving future residents an alternative to the instability of renting.
The development team is committed to sustainable design, aiming to achieve net-zero energy usage and Passive House performance with this residential building, which will set a new standard for future development in the Grove Hall area.
“Our goal is to prevent displacement and generate wealth,” said Dorchester Bay EDC CEO Kimberly R. Lyle. “We can accomplish this through units like these, which will facilitate intergenerational wealth building and stability for local first-time homebuyers. This team has an in-depth understanding of the Grove Hall history and culture through lived experience. We are eager to get to work to help sustain the Grove Hall community for generations to come.”
